Casual Fridays

25 Oct

DKNY Jacket, Forever 21 Sweater, Forever 21 Shirt, AllSaints Jeans, Coach Bag, Mason Scotch Flats, Jewelry from Italy

I have a confession: I detest jeans.

I used to be unable to live without them and collected an embarrassing amount throughout the years. This all changed once I went on an extended trip to Europe and decided only to bring a carryon (more about that later). Jeans were too bulky to pack so I decided to forgo jeans and relied on leggings and dresses.

Fridays in the office is deemed casual and EVERYBODY dons their denim. At first I would wear my take on a “casual” dress, but I would get called out for being “too fancy”. Alas being the newbie, I was forced to conform. Luckily, I have found the BEST jeans at AllSaints that are both stylish and comfortable. Paired with a polka dot sweater and crisp white shirt with a leather collar I was all prepared to take on what I would consider “smart” casual attire.

Night at the Museum

24 Oct

Urban Outfitters Dress, Vintage & Italian Jewelry, Stuart Weitzman Heels, Kate Spade Bag, Primark Tights

Last Friday, the girls and I decided to go to the ROM’s Friday Night Live. The theme was fashion so we made sure to be catwalk ready. I chose this little number that I got for a steal at Urban Outfitters. I kept it simple with minimum jewelry, black shoes, and a candy coloured pink bag.

It has been over a decade since I’ve been to the ROM, so I was very excited to wander around the museum for the first time in over a decade. It’s a really cool concept, every Friday from October 18th to December 6th, the ROM is essentially turning into a club. There’s music, drinks, food, entertainment, and dancing. What more could a girl ask for?

We decided to first explore the museum and sample the food available.

At around 9:30, we were no longer able to explore the museum and gathered on the main floor to check out the band.

Afterwards, we headed over to Guu, where we ordered sashimi, fried chicken, and overpriced soda. Guu had an incredible atmosphere. Everyone was loud and welcoming. The table behind us offered us shots of bamboo wine, which I was surprised was so light and refreshing. We were disappointed how Guu closed so early, but nonetheless we weren’t ready to call it a night.

We made our way down Church St. and got in line for a bar that seemed to be packed. Crews & Tangos is where we ended up. T & V have never been to a gay bar, yet alone a drag show! They were in for a treat! The performer of the evening was hilarious, bitchy, and sure could dance! The girls and I danced the night away until it was time to call it a night and hail a cab home.

Venus in Fur

23 Oct

I saw “Venus in Fur” the other day and I was quite surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I went in with no expectations-I didn’t even know what it was! My friend had an extra ticket and it was only $7.50, I wasn’t going to say no. It was funny, provocative, and smart. The two actors were flawless. I can’t recommend this production enough!

It’s only running until October 27th so hurry up and get your tickets now.

Holt Renfrew Opening Night Party

22 Oct

Last night I was invited to Holt Renfrew’s opening night party for Toronto Fashion Week. It was a surreal experience being greeted by a dozen people as I walked in, asking to take my coat and leading me up to the event. I’m really a fish out of water when it comes to these things, as I knew no one other than the person I came with.

Throughout the evening, we mingled with other guests, feasted on hors d’oeuvres, macaroons, and tiny donuts, and indulged in the most delicious cocktails. The Ciroc Red Berry Lemonade was perfection.

I felt awkward taking pictures with my iPhone, but did sneak a couple shots. If I ever do see any of the shots the photographers snapped I’ll be sure to post them.

Lace & Leather

21 Oct

Danier Jacket, Navy Dress, Calzedonia Tights, Forever 21 Necklace, Stuart Weitzman Heels, Kate Spade Bag

The gala for Chloe Magazine was the first fashion event I have ever attended. I spent all day agonizing over what to wear. Last Fall/Winter, I spent time in Europe where I had a home base in London. Once I did all the touristy things, I spent my days shopping and practically lived at the Oxford Circus Topshop. There, in the boutique section, I found the most magnificent lace dress (okay top) from Navy. I decided to wear it with a pair of black tights, my Stuart Weitzman pumps, leather jacket, and statement necklace.

Chloe Magazine Gala

20 Oct

On Thursday, I attended the Gala for Chloe Magazine’s Fall Issue. It was held in the Artscape Wychwood Barns, a former streetcar repair facility turned space for community cultural events.

Chloe is a quarterly publication that celebrates women – and in my opinion it’s a piece of art more than a magazine. The gala began with a cocktail reception before we took our seats for the opening address and opera performance. Afterwards the fashion show began, debuting the new collection by Sarah Houston.

You can purchase you copy of Chloe Magazine in Chapters Indigo stores and Gateway Newstands stores. The digital edition is available for download on iTunes. Chloe Magazine donates $1 from every issue sold to the Breast Cancer Society of Canada.

Autumn Leaves

17 Oct

Topshop Skirt, Zara Top, Vintage Bracelet, Stuart Weitzman Pumps, Calzedonia Stockings

Fall in Southern Ontario is always magical. The leaves begin to change colours and brighten the surrounding landscapes with vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows. It was an unseasonably warm mid October day, so I chose to wear my favourite leather skirt with a cobalt blue low back top. My favourite detail of this outfit is my vintage crystal bracelet from the 1950s that belonged to my Nonna on my dad’s side. I was very happy to discover it, hidden away in a drawer at my parents house. It most certainly will be making regular appearances in my Fall/Winter wardrobe.
